Understand the mission, structure, & responsibilities.
2. Request a Chapter Interest Discussion
Email us at alc@varep.org
3. Complete Chapter Assessment Worksheet
Download and Assess people, population, & partners in proposed area.

4. Promote & Assemble Founding Board
You will receive guidance, feedback, and direction throughout the process.
5. Chapter Launch Application (invite only)
This includes leadership roles, acknowledgments, and required screening.
6. Onboarding & Launch
Once approved, complete chartering, onboarding, and Chapter Launch

Conduct & Leadership

All members must act with professionalism, respect, and integrity, protect confidential information, and follow VAREP policies. Harassment, misuse of funds or branding, or implying endorsement for personal gain is not tolerated. Concerns should be reported. Good-faith reports are protected. Retaliation is not allowed.

Leadership Screening

Chapter and National leaders must:

Agree to the Code of Conduct
Complete a criminal background check
Complete a credit check for fiduciary roles

Notes:

Chapters do not exist to generate leads for Housing Professionals
Past mistakes do not automatically disqualify someone.
Leadership may be limited or denied for unresolved risk, patterns incompatible with trust, failure to disclose, or refusal to consent.

The MVPro Educator™ Designation includes two tracks. The Industry Educator track allows real estate and lending professionals to educate housing industry audiences. The Community Educator track allows HUD-Certified housing counseling professionals to educate the military-connected community. Professionals seeking to become VAREP Educators must first earn the applicable MVPro™ Designation aligned with their career path and then apply for the MVPro Educator™ track.

The MVPro Lender™ Designation Track empowers Mortgage Lending Professionals to competently serve Military-Connected Communities. Initial coursework includes Military & Veteran Lender Certification (MVLC), Surviving Spouse Housing Specialist (SSHS), PCS: Know Your Orders (PCS), Fair Housing, and SCRA, along with Exam Prep and the MVPro Designation Exam. To maintain an active designation, MVPro Lender Designees must be a VAREP National Core Member with an active Housing Professional Subscription, complete two CE courses annually, and pass a recertification exam every three years. Agents may also opt into the annual MVPro National Consumer Database subscription, increasing visibility within the military-connected community.

The MVPro Counselor™ Designation Track empowers HUD-Certified Housing Counselors to competently serve Military-Connected Communities. Initial coursework includes the three courses within the Military & Veteran Counselor Certification (MVCC), along with Exam Prep and the MVPro Designation Exam. To maintain an active designation, MVPro Counselor Designees must be a VAREP National Core Member with an active Housing Professional Subscription, complete two CE courses annually, and pass a recertification exam every three years. Designed for HUD-Certified Counselors, MVCC Complements HUD certification by building military cultural competency and specialized program knowledge. Prepares counselors to support servicemembers and veterans across housing stability, financial readiness, foreclosure and homelessness prevention, and sustainable homeownership, including VA home loan benefits, HUD-VASH, and SSVF programs.

VA Loan Strategies, Default, & Beyond

To ensure professional and regulatory integrity, the MVPro™ Counselor and MVEC – Community tracks are limited to HUD-Certified Housing Counselors. MVPro™ complements the HUD Housing Counseling Certification, enhancing an existing counselor credential with military cultural competency, VA housing program knowledge, and standards for responsible public and community education.

Community = Education to the military-connected population.

Industry = Education about the military-connected population.

Designed for all MVPro™ Tracks, SSHS trains professionals to serve military surviving spouses by addressing unique housing rights and benefits, including VA home loans, foreclosure protections, Dependency and Indemnity Compensation (DIC), education benefits, and healthcare access.

Designed for all MVPro™ Tracks, FHA covers housing rights for protected classes under the Fair Housing Act, including federal and state-level protections that extend to active-duty servicemembers and veterans.

Designed for all MVPro™ Tracks, SCRA explains the housing-related rights and legal protections available to active-duty servicemembers under the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act, with practical application across housing, lending, and counseling environments.

Designed for all MVPro™ Tracks, PCS explores the realities of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) moves and equips professionals to better support active-duty servicemembers and their families through relocation, housing transitions, and timing-sensitive decisions.

Designed for Mortgage Lenders, MVLC delivers in-depth mastery of the VA Home Loan program, focusing on underwriting, eligibility, entitlement, risk management, and VA-specific lending and servicing considerations.

Military Culture Foundations

Designed for HUD-Certified Counselors, MVCC Complements HUD certification by building military cultural competency and specialized program knowledge. Prepares counselors to support servicemembers and veterans across housing stability, financial readiness, foreclosure and homelessness prevention, and sustainable homeownership, including VA home loan benefits, HUD-VASH, and SSVF programs.

Designed for Real Estate Agents, MVHC provides a comprehensive understanding of the VA Home Loan Guaranty Program, including military demographics and marketing, VA loan history, eligibility and occupancy requirements, Certificates of Eligibility (COE), proof of service, lender overlays, income, debt and credit considerations, funding fees, seller concessions, VA appraisals and Tidewater, Minimum Property Requirements (MPRs), and the impact of bankruptcy, foreclosure, and short sales on servicemembers.
